Growth Hub fuels the Northern Powerhouse

New figures have shown that the Business Growth Hub has contributed close to £50m of Gross Added Value to the Greater Manchester economy since its inception in 2011. This in turn has created over 6,000 new jobs and safeguarded a further 10,000.

A member of the Manchester Growth Company, the Business Growth Hub was set up, as its name suggests, to be a one stop shop for local businesses of all shapes and sizes where advice and support on reaching their full potential can be accessed. In order to achieve this goal the Hub’s services include a network of over 300 experienced business people who provide mentoring services designed to assist in mapping out the businesses’ growth plans and overall direction. IT specialists are also on hand demonstrate the problem solving potential of the latest technology and assist with digital marketing and cyber security.

Although the advice and support offered by the Hub creates significant ‘added value’, it is arguable that the Hub’s crucial component is its Access to Finance team. In addition to helping businesses identify the best financial products for their particular circumstances, the team also provide vital introductions to financiers such as banks and business angels. To date, these introductions have secured £57.45m-worth of investment for companies across the North West.

Indeed, while the Hub is based in Manchester and works closely with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, its services are not strictly restricted to businesses located within that conurbation. Businesses throughout the North West therefore stand to benefit, and case studies produced by the Hub demonstrate its impact extending to areas as distant as Blackburn and Cheshire.
