Bringing a Buzz Back to Chorley Town

Chorley is set to see a couple of major developments over the next few years, attracting consumers back to the market town.

The first development is in the town centre and includes iconic high profile businesses such as Marks and Spencer's, Reel Cinemas and Loungers Bar and Restaurant.

The new £12m redevelopment is an extension to Market Walk and will see eight new commercial units being created in time for Christmas trading in 2019.

This work coincides with two other projects; the new Chorley Youth Zone which is now open and the building of the Primrose Garden's retirements village on Fleet Street, which is due to open in Spring 2019.

The second development is a potential luxury shopping village on the Botany Bay site. Planning consultants hope the site will become Lancashire's version of Bicester Village in Oxfordshire, which attracts 6.3m shoppers a year.

Brands at the new development could include the likes of Armani, Prada and Vivienne Westwood. It is envisaged there will be around 70 units centered around a pedestrian street with a backdrop of cafes and restaurants overlooking the scenic canal setting.

The shopping centre would be built on pockets of land near the M61 motorway and would also see the 19^th Century Botany Bay mill being retained. The land will be used for housing, leisure and an employment area, for industry, storage and distribution companies.

However, the potential problem at present is traffic, which is a big issue as it already backs from the Hartwood roundabout all the way to the motorway at peak times.

The landowners recently had a taster day for local residents so that they can see the initial plans and gain valuable feedback. An initial proposal for outline planning consent has been approved by Chorley Council.

It is hoped these new commercial developments will give Chorley the boost it needs in terms of bringing new visitors to the town from across the UK and beyond.
