Victims of domestic violence have eligibility assistance with removal of harsh evidence tests

The Law Society have reported and welcomed the removal of a five-year time limit on evidence of abuse which prevents vulnerable victims of domestic violence from obtaining legal aid for court hearings.

When dealing with victims of domestic violence availability of legal aid is important as without this resource, often victims are unable to finance applications before the court.

Many organisations have been working with the Ministry of Justice to review the time and evidence restrictions so victims have access to legal aid for court hearings.

In addition the government have made a recent decision to provide protection for victims of domestic violence from being cross examined by their abuser.  This is also a huge relief for victims who have previously had to endure terrible ordeals.
