Forbes supports sockshop in securing Leeds lease as retail re-opens for festive footfall

Forbes Solicitors has advised British-Based specialist socks and hosiery retailer, Sockshop, on its new 2,271 sq ft lease acquisition in Trinity, Leeds.

The law firm, which has 11 offices across the North, supported the retail business in its expansion across the Pennines to Leeds' premier leisure and retail destination. This comes on the back of a lease renewal at the company's Manchester, Arndale store.

Headquartered in Crewe, Sockshop is predominantly an ecommerce business and in February 2020, launched the UK's first sock vending machine, located at Stratford.

Commenting on the deal, Managing Director, Amit Ruia said: "It's fantastic to be opening a new store as UK retail is back open for business. We've worked closely with Trinity to ensure our team and customers are safe. We have introduced new measures to welcome people back into the centre, so they can shop with confidence."

Forbes' commercial property partner, Helen Marsh led the deal and said: "Sockshop's brand and reputation have been built on its quality product and its focus on convenient shopping for consumers. The company's original vision was to make socks as easy to buy as newspapers and while much of this strategy in recent years has been a shift to ecommerce, this new site in Leeds is a strong and strategic addition to the portfolio."

Matt Illingworth of Hynes Illingworth, specialist retail agents advised Sockshop on the terms of the deal.

This latest deal follows the announcement that Forbes' commercial property team advised accountancy firm, NR Barton on its new offices in Wigan last month. The team continues to go from strength-to-strength with a blend of commercial property and retail clients.
