The Times newspaper recently reported the unfortunate and tragic case of a young climber who was paralysed after his friend failed to keep hold of the belay rope as he was climbing up a wall at an indoor climbing centre.

Fortunately, his friend was insured, either in his own right or through a climbing group or other organisation.

Mr Smith has been diagnosed as a complete paraplegic and is likely to require lifelong care and assistance. He is confined to a wheelchair and will need intensive physiotherapy, adaptations at home and numerous items of equipment to help him have the best quality of life possible.

Thankfully insurers who are dealing with the claim appear to have accepted liability and the case is now progressing towards valuation.

This is a classic example of why it is important that people should be insured when carrying out potentially dangerous activities. Many household policies often include 2nd Party cover and there are numerous bespoke policies available through clubs and other organisations. It's well worth getting insured if you're taking part in these activities. At least if you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in a situation where you make a mistake, and someone is injured both you and they will have the comfort of knowing that they can be compensated for their losses.

Here at Forbes Solicitors, we have dedicated team of professionals when dealing with catastrophic injury claims. Our aim is to ensure that injured people are put back into the best possible position they can be, to ensure that their losses are covered and are recovered quickly.

If you have had the misfortune of suffering and injury and loss, please contact one of the team for no-win, no fee, no obligation consultation. We act on a no-win no fee basis.
