Forbes Solicitors recently welcomed over 30 guests to a seminar on Partnership Working for Development Teams and the issues and pitfalls which may arise. The event was held in central Manchester on 4 June 2014 and a large number of prominent RPs in the North were represented.
Lucy Worrall, Partner and Head of Housing and Regeneration (Property) talked in detail about land inclusive back to back deals. Lucy set out the legal and practical differences between options and conditional contracts as well as touching on land promotion agreements. Lucy also focussed on practical issues RPs need to be aware of when negotiating and entering into these type of deals.
Angela Cross, Tax Director and Jim Gempton, VAT Director both of BDO spoke about joint working arrangements and providing specialist advice on the direct tax, VAT and Stamp Duty Land Tax implications of contractual arrangements, limited companies and partnerships. Bringing the seminar to a conclusion, Daniel Milnes, Partner and Head of Business Law at Forbes discussed the regulatory risk management techniques required for development schemes. Daniel touched upon how to identify regulatory issues in advance and how to plan to address or avoid them with particular reference to procurement issues and charity law.
Lucy comments " We were delighted to offer this comprehensive seminar on land inclusive package deals to RPs. The range of speakers brought together procurement, tax, property law and tactical advice which can benefit all RPs who undertake this type of deal. The feedback from the session has been fantastic and we are now rolling the session out further and delivering it in house to our clients."
