This week is Dementia Awareness week in association with the Alzheimer's Society. Specialist Solicitors at Forbes are taking part in various events this week to promote awareness, including a Dementia Awareness Open day and a dementia evening at a local care home.
Jennifer Wilkinson, a Dementia Champion and solicitor at Forbes states that:
'There are lots of ways you can get involved in Dementia Awareness Week, such as attending a local event or even becoming a Dementia Friend or Champion. Hopefully, this week will raise more awareness and help spread the word that life doesn't end when Dementia begins'
This morning, Good Morning Britain ran a story about a lady aged 41 who had recently been diagnosed with Dementia. It is uncommon for someone of such a young age to be diagnosed with dementia, however it is believed that such cases will be become more common as diagnosis of the disease improves.
This story highlights the need for people to plan ahead for their future as early as possible and ensure that Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney's are put into place sooner rather than later.
