Claiming Compensation Boils Down To Accurate Records

Dispute Resolution News

03 September, 2015

Lancashire law firm Forbes Solicitors is urging businesses affected by the recent water contamination crisis to keep full and accurate records of losses suffered to make the process of claiming compensation as smooth as possible.

Some areas in Lancashire are still affected by the boil water notice which has been in place since early August and many businesses will have incurred significant costs as they simply can not rely on boiling water. Small business, particularly in the hospitality and catering sector, have in some cases, been unable to trade at all due to health and safety restrictions.

Tom Smith, a Dispute Resolution Solicitor at Forbes warns, "Keep full and accurate records of any losses suffered, ensuring that all supporting evidence is retained. It may also help to keep a diary of the steps taken, the reasons why and any attempts to minimise your losses going forward. The better the record kept of your losses, the more likely your business is to maximise the compensation available."

United Utilities have acknowledged they have an obligation to compensate businesses for the losses suffered due to the contamination and it is anticipated that this will include both direct and indirect losses.
