Following the request of the Prime Minister, Theresa May, The 'Thriving at work' report, published on Thursday 26 October 2017, is an independent review of how employers can improve and enhance the mental health of all of its employees and ultimately ensure they thrive through work.
The report reveals the challenges faced by UK employers in dealing with mental health and the knock on effects it has to the economy as a result. It provides 40 important recommendations to address these issues and to promote mental well-being.
Recommendations for employers
The review has called for all employers, to implement the 'mental health core standards', a framework which aims to raise awareness of mental health issues and to promote well-being of employees.
Employers therefore, irrespective of its size or type of industry, should:
In January 2017, the Prime Minister said that 'more needs to be done so that employers provide the support needed for employees with mental health conditions' and, indeed, the review makes significant proposals to better support the mental health of employees, which in turn will strength employment relationships and benefit businesses overall.
