Boy on work experience claims compensation

22 July, 2009

A 15 year old boy, whilst on work experience, caught his thumb on a piece of protruding metal whilst loading a hoist. He was left with a scar on his thumb that, even though it would be permanent, would get paler and flatter so that it would become hardly visible.

He was awarded £1,465 in compensation.

Work regulations are strict and require employers to ensure they operate safe systems in the work place and even off site. Work experience workers are still owed the same duty of care by the company as any other employee.
