The planned postal strike by Royal Mail staff once again brings into the spotlight the important issue of employee relations for local businesses. Jonathan Holden, an Employment Solicitor with Forbes is warning businesses of the importance of properly informing and consulting staff during times of change.
Jonathan warns, "Proper consultation with employees is a fundamental principle that Tribunals will look for in any legal case. Any employer that consults with its' staff about proposed changes at an early stage is likely to carry out changes amicably, hopefully avoiding potential Tribunal claims together with the potentially huge costs these carry."
He adds, "Furthermore, proper consultation and agreement can help in many cases to prevent the hugely disruptive strike action that is now being seen with the threatened postal strike".
