An employment expert at Forbes Solicitors has welcomed The Government's announced proposals to bring into law the limit of the statutory cap for unfair dismissal awards.
The proposal is to limit the compensation for unfair dismissals to a maximum of either £74,200.00 (presently the cap on the compensation) or 52 weeks pay, whichever is the lower. Although the actual date has not been announced it is likely this change will take place in July and affect all dismissals taking place after that date.
Jonathan Holden, Employment Partner at Forbes Solicitors, "This will provide increased certainty to businesses facing Employment Tribunal claims. Although it is unclear as to how the exact figures will play out, this will limit the liability and introduce certainty to businesses."
