Don't fall foul of new regulations

A Residential Property expert at Forbes Solicitors is reminding Ribble Valley residents of the importance of registering their septic tanks to avoid a fine.

Failing to register or installing an unapproved system without prior registration of an exemption or permit is against the law. Many homes use septic tanks as they are not connected to a public sewer because they are located in the countryside or in other places that are too far away from sewers.

Michelle Thompson, Partner in the Conveyancing Department in Blackburn comments, "The regulations for septic tanks changed in 2010 however many people still haven't registered with the Environment Agency. This is especially relevant for the Ribble Valley as there are a high proportion of houses with this type of waste system in the area. I would urge anyone who hasn't registered to do so to avoid being fined."
