together

What is the Law Society Children's Panel?

The Law Society Children's Panel is a specialist accreditation scheme for solicitors who work in the area of child law. Solicitors who are members of the Children's Panel have the expertise and experience necessary to advise and represent parents, children, and other parties in child-related legal proceedings, such as child arrangement orders and care proceedings.

The Law Society's Children Law Accreditation Scheme (formerly the Children Panel) covers all types of children law work.

The Law Society website says: "Members will have shown, to the satisfaction of the Law Society, that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge, skills, experience and practice in the area of children law, be that in private practice or working for a local authority." Membership has to be renewed every five years and the number of members is relatively small.

Cases involving children require a special sensitivity and specific expertise. Forbes' Child Law team deals with difficult family issues like contact, residence and other parental rights issues such as family relocation and disputes about schooling.

The Children Law Accreditation Scheme covers all types of children law work. Law Society accredited children lawyers are specialists in dealing with the areas of the law related to children.

They can help with matters including working out arrangements for children during a divorce, helping people with child support issues, child custody issues, family breakdowns, and rights to see children.

In addition, accredited children law specialists can support children and adults whose children are 'at risk' or have been taken into care.
