A trainee hairdresser has recovered £20,000 in compensation after sustaining serious injuries in a road traffic accident on a country road. The Claimant was a front-seat passenger when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall.

It was alleged that the driver was negligent by driving at excessive speed, failing to maintain proper control of the vehicle, and failing to take appropriate steps to avoid the collision. As a result of the crash, the Claimant suffered an L3 spinal fracture, pelvic and rib pain, bruising to the nose and buttocks, and grazing. The injuries left the Claimant unable to work for many months and led to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder, which required medical treatment.

The Defendant’s insurers admitted liability and made an early offer to settle the claim while the Claimant was still recovering. Although medical experts later determined that an underlying back condition meant the Claimant had returned to their pre-accident condition within two years, the Claimant accepted the settlement and recovered £20,000.

The matter was successfully handled by John Bennett, Partner at Forbes Solicitors LLP.
