Times newspaper reports that "Babies' lives are at risk because maternity units are still unsafe"
The headlines continue about the shocking reports of babies dying or being badly injured as a result of poor standards. Mothers are suffering too. The article makes reference to the "CQC report on Morecambe Bay showed failures in maternity care, including women who had been at risk of sepsis and had not been given antibiotics in time. There were not enough midwives to "keep women safe from avoidable harm"
Lessons need to be learned. Whilst the NHS is under significant strain, it should not detract from the basic standards of clinical care. The consequences of substandard care can have a devastating impact on an individual's life and that of their family.
