Education settings that support home schooling

As increasing numbers of parents elect to home school, we have been working closely with settings that support home schooling.

More about our support for home schooling settings

These may include settings which offer a broad curriculum for only a limited number of hours per week or settings which offer a narrow curriculum with a particular focus. Understanding clearly where your setting fits into the current legislative framework is vital, given the potentially ramifications of inadvertently running an independent educational institution.

We can provide advice and guidance in respect of the legislation for independent educational institutions and independent schools, and ensure that your setting understands whether it falls within the remit of providing full-time or part-time education. We are also supporting settings to understand the implications of planned legislative change in the Children’s Wellbeing and School Bill.  We can advise on any necessary steps to avoid registration obligations. In the event that your setting is, however, required to register with the Department for Education, we can support with the registration requirements.

We are experienced in successfully supporting education settings to challenge investigations and findings by Ofsted that they are running unregistered independent schools. We recognise that managing an Ofsted intervention process and the potential legal consequences can be stressful. We can provide support with preparing response letters to Ofsted including preparing witness statements to evidence that the setting does not fall within the remit of an unregistered independent school.

More broadly, we can also work with your setting to put in place appropriate policies and agreements with parents for the provision of education.  We can also support you with preparing and agreeing any commercial contracts with third-party suppliers.
