We have previously reported on the various agreements in place between insurers/defendant representatives and claimant organisations to deal with claims and litigation issues arising out of the COVID-19 crisis.

We can confirm that following a review last week the ABI has agreed an extension to the COVID-19: Personal Injury Protocol to the 30 June 2020, extending limitation periods. A link to the agreement and signatories to the agreement can be found here. This will be the last extension, with the emphasis from the ABI now moving to claims progression.

In addition, the best practice agreement agreed between the defendant organisation FOIL and claimant organisation APIL is to remain in place for the time being. This agreement deals with mutual co-operation in claims handling during the outbreak and can be found here.

Finally, the statement of intent between the ABI and ACSO (The Association of Consumer Support Organisations) has been extended to the 26 June. This is a set of principles that they encourage parties to follow for the resolution of disputes during the crisis and can be found here.
