Responding to a Data Breach

Together we are Forbes

Tuesday 14 July 2020

1pm - 2.30pm

Hosted online via Zoom

Schools are having to do more and differently to respond to the challenges of Covid-19 and resources are stretched. How should you manage the situation if something goes wrong that has regulatory, liability and employment consequences? Something like a data breach affecting pupils and staff needs a swift and co-ordinated response across the board and the right responses to the data protection, employment and educational consequences. The specialists in Education and Information Law from Forbes work together to support schools to do just that. Join us for this event to get an insight into how you can improve your readiness to respond.

Scenario:

A school are holding their leavers' assembly virtually using a popular video conferencing platform. During the course of the assembly, a senior member of staff accidentally shares information about pupils and breaks some sensitive news about a member of staff to all the pupils, parents and other teachers attending.

What we will cover both from an information and employment law perspective:

  • Analysing and assessing the breach
  • Conducting your investigations - one size won't fit all
  • Immediate steps to take to mitigate the damage(s)
  • Who do you have to tell?
  • How to take a co-ordinated approach
  • Dealing with the fallout - naming, shaming and claiming
  • Learning lessons from breaches

The workshop is aimed at Head Teachers, School Business Managers, Finance & HR Officers, Senior Leadership Teams and Governors who want to keep up to date with data protection law and developments in the education sector with a focus on your decision-making strategies and dealing with any fallout in the event of a data breach.

The session is £70pp plus VAT. If you have a retainer with Forbes which includes free training please email rachael.pickervance@forbessolicitors.co.uk to check what eligibility you have.
