Elderly Client Services Article
14 May, 2021
Dying Matters Awareness Week (10-16 May) seeks to encourage people to talk more openly about death, dying and bereavement. Part of that conversation is about planning ahead for the future, which can make the end of life experience a little easier for yourself and your loved ones.
To ensure your planning is done properly, there is no substitute for using a qualified, reputable solicitor. Whilst some Will-writing companies or 'DIY' services (pro forma Wills from the Post Office, for example) may at first appear cheaper, there are often hidden costs or small print terms and conditions tying you into additional services which are often unnecessary or inappropriate. For example, many Will-writing companies will insist on you appointing them as executors of the Will, which can result in expensive administration charges further down the line.
Unlike solicitors, Will-writers are unregulated and often uninsured, meaning that if something goes wrong, clients have no way of seeking compensation or having the issue rectified. We have heard many 'horror stories' of clients' bad experiences with cheap, online Will-writing companies. By using a solicitor, you can rest assured that the work will carried out to a high, professional standard.
At Forbes Solicitors, our team of specialists can advise and guide you through your planning for later life and death. We deal with a range of matters relating to Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection or setting up a Trust. After death, we can support your loved ones by guiding them through Probate and the administration of an estate, reducing some of the stress during a very difficult time. We will always be up-front about the cost involved and there are no hidden charges.
