Housing Diversity Network

Housing Diversity Network is a social enterprise that aims to inspire and empower people, promoting equality, diversity and opportunity for all. It works collaboratively to support organisations to improve how they address inequality, get the most from their staff and meet the needs of the communities they work with.

Darren Burton, Head of Housing Consultancy Services, has been involved with the Housing Diversity Network for the past six years and has found it to be a useful link for learning more about diversity issues which impact upon the everyday working of the Social Housing Sector and beyond.

During this time, more and more Registered Housing Providers (many of whom are existing Forbes clients) are joining the HDN. It is growing in stature and becoming a prominent voice within the sector. This is particularly relevant given the recent high-profile race-related incidents which have taken place both in the UK and the USA.

Mentoring is central to the Housing Diversity Network's programme and Darren has supported a variety of different staff members in roles such as ASB Officers, Allocations Managers, Policy Managers and Community Initiatives Managers from large Housing Associations and Local Authorities across the North of England.

On being a mentor, Darren commented, "This has enabled me to gain a greater insight into the internal working of these organisations and obtain a better understanding of our clients' needs. This can prove useful when preparing for advice clinics, client relationship meetings and tender applications. There are also opportunities to be mentored by external agencies in order to provide an alternative approach for your own personal career development."

A wide range of training, seminars and workshops are available with the option of participating as delegates or contributing to the delivery of the sessions.
